Fox & Folly is a small, family-run business based in Devon

We make a useful and practical range of high quality branded wood goods for homes and businesses. Working with natures finest material is our passion and all of our timber is sourced from sustainably managed forests.

Fox & Folly is formerly Timbersmiths.
We’re the same family-run business, working from the same workshop, using the same materials and processes — just under a new name that better reflects the character of our products.

Our customers value the quality of service and products we offer -  simple, functional well made items using the best sustainable natural materials possible.

The best ingredients

We work with a few select sawmills in the UK who carefully source all of the timber that goes into our products. Our timber is FSC approved and harvested sustainably from managed forests. Much of what we use is grown in the UK, some within a few miles of the workshop.

Our Story

After 25 years as a professional photographer, having previously been trained as a joiner, Richard decided to turn his eye for design and detail into crafting handmade furniture and furnishings and from there Fox & Folly was created 5 years ago.The business originally traded as Timbersmiths, before rebranding to Fox & Folly to better reflect the character and direction of our work.

The business has taken on several directional changes since then, however more recently and using Rich’s design skills the business now combines making and engraving woodware for businesses and home.

Demand has grown significantly over the past two years for our solid oak keyrings that we have shipped to businesses small and large across the globe. The quality, size and sustainability of wood being determining factors that have attracted many environmentally conscious businesses to swap from plastic or metal key key fobs to wood. Particularly popular with luxury hotels, lodges and glamping sites where guests are forever taking home or losing their keys, our range of wooden key fobs come in 5 different sizes and can be engraved with a unique message, corporate branding or hotel room number.  

Last year Rich’s son Daryl decided to hang up his chef’s whites and join the business to help with fulfilment and manufacturing. He also keeps us nourished with homemade cake and soup for lunches. And after a 20 year career in UK tourism, Rich’s wife Kris joined the family business this year, bringing with her a wealth of administrative and sales experience plus a love of spreadsheets! With Molly the Rhodesian Ridgeback completing the team, we hope to recruit our first apprentice in the not too distant future.
